Nadine van der Beek
Neurologist
My background
I was trained as a clinical neurologist at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Subsequently, I did a further specialization in neuromyology (Erasmus MC / Hôpital Universitaire Pitié-Salpêtrière in Paris). Since 2014 I am employed as a staff consultant at the department of Neurology at Erasmus MC.
My PhD-research focused on the clinical features of patients with Pompe disease, and the effect of enzyme replacement therapy in this patient group (2013).
I am a current board member of the Spierziekten centrum Nederland, and a co-chair of the muscle working group of the European Reference Network for neuromuscular diseases (Euro-NMD).
My projects
My expertise is the clinical care and research of children and adults with neuromuscular diseases.
Working together closely with a dedicated team of staff and PhD students within the Centre for Lysosomal and Metabolic Diseases (CLMZ), my main research focusses currently on 3 topics:
- long-term effects of enzyme-replacement therapy in children and adults with Pompe disease
- validation of new outcome measures
- translational research into the development of new therapies (a.o. lentiviral gene therapy) for Pompe disease
I was involved in the founding of the European POmpe Consortium (EPOC), leading the work package on outcome measures and registries.
