PhD student

My background

I completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in medicine at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. I also obtained a Research master’s degree in health sciences with honours at the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

After completing my studies in 2020, I worked as a resident in neurology not in training (ANIOS) at Amphia hospital in Breda for 6 months. In 2020, I started my PhD trajectory at the department of neurology at Erasmus MC.

As part of my PhD-trajectory, I am studying Peripheral Nervous System Disorders in a (part-time) International Master program in at the University of Milan.

My main research interests focus on improving the lives of patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP).

My projects

My PhD trajectory focuses on clinical studies on the diagnosis and treatment of CIDP.

CIDP is difficult to diagnose, because it is a rare disorder, and most of the symptoms can also be observed in other diseases. Once diagnosed, patients with CIDP can fortunately be treated. However, it is unclear for how long patients need treatment.

The main aims of my research are to improve the recognition of CIDP in clinical practice, and to optimize currently available treatment strategies for patients with CIDP.

Furthermore, I am involved in the T2B project, which investigates the role of B-cells in CIDP, and in clinical trials investigating new treatment options for CIDP.

Research focus

My research focuses on CIDP.

Background:Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is a disease of the peripheral nerves. These nerves provide the connection between the brain, the muscles and skin. We do not know exactly how CIDP arises. The idea is that an immune reaction against the nerves arises due to an unknown cause. This causes gradual loss of strength, loss […]

International CIDP Outcome Study (ICOS) In this study, we investigate the variation and predictors of the disease course in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP). Background CIDP is a rare condition caused by inflammation of the nerves. This causes complaints of loss of strength and sensory disturbances in the arms and legs. These complaints usually develop […]
