Lara Sammelius
Research technician
My background
In 2023, I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Hogeschool Rotterdam, where I studied Biology & Medical Laboratory Research (BML). Here, I specialized in Molecular Biology.
I completed my research internship at the department of Pulmonary Medicine at Erasmus MC, where I further developed my skills and interest in immunology.
In 2024, I joined the Immune-Mediated Neuropathies (IMN) research group, at the department of Neurology and Immunology at Erasmus MC, as a research technician.
Since then, I have learned a lot of valuable skills in performing/documenting research and biobanking.
My projects
Currently, I am doing assays in which I detect antibody activity against gangliosides or ganglioside complexes in serum from patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) or other neuropathies.
The techniques I use for this are the glycoarray and the ganglioside enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). I also determine anti-ganglioside antibody titers using the ganglioside ELISA technique.
Additionally, I work on the International GBS Outcome Study (IGOS) biobank by aliquoting and documenting the materials we have received and by gathering selected samples for assays.
