Esther Brusse
Neurologist
My background
I am trained as a neurologist (2003) at the Elisabeth Tweesteden Ziekenhuis in Tilburg. In 2004, I have specialized in neuromuscular diseases at Erasmus MC (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) and started working as a neuromuscular neurologist within the NMD team of this Center.
Our team aims to provide the best possible care for all patients with neuromuscular disorders and teaching our residents and PhD’s in the diagnostics and clinical care of neuromuscular disorders.
We strongly believe in national and international cooperation in the neuromuscular field to achieve this goal.
As a current chair at Spierziekten Centrum Nederland, I am able to contribute to this collaboration. Furthermore, I am a current board member of the Myositis Network Netherlands .
I have a special interest in Pompe disease, as this is my focus of research, in other genetic neuromuscular disorders, and in myositis. I participate in the Erasmus MC myositis working group to enhance multidisciplinary care for myositis patients.
My projects
Working together closely with a dedicated team of staff and PhD students within Neuromuscular Research Center and the Centre for Lysosomal and Metabolic Diseases (CLMZ), my main research focusses currently on 2 topics:
- life style and training interventions in Pompe disease
- treatment decision making and long-term effects of enzyme-replacement therapy in Pompe disease
Furthermore I am involved in the T2B project together with Ruth Huizinga, investigating the immune responses driving the development of autoantibodies and in various clinical trials on CIDP.
