Anouk van Dommelen

PhD student

My background

I obtained my medical degree from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2025.

During my clinical internships, I developed an interest in neurology, which led me to conduct my master’s thesis on Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS) at Erasmus MC.

In 2025, I began my PhD trajectory at the Departments of Neurology and Immunology at Erasmus MC, focusing on research that combines aspects of both disciplines.

My projects

The primary focus of my PhD research is to investigate variation in disease course among patients with GBS and to examine its correlation with different biomarkers. These biomarkers include Neurofilament Light Chain and anti-ganglioside antibodies.

With the results of these studies, we aim to improve diagnostic tests, prognostic models, and treatment strategies for patients with GBS.
