PhD student

Background

I have a bachelor’s degree in Pre-medicine from University College Roosevelt and a master’s degree in Population Health Management from Leiden University.

In 2024, I started my PhD trajectory at the department of Neurology at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam.

My main research interests revolve around clinical and epidemiological research on GBS, prognostic modelling and GBS treatment studies.

Projects

The primary focus of my research is to gain a deeper understanding of the early disease course of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS).

Currently, I am working on two main studies:

  • a time to treatment study and
  • a prognostic modeling study.

The time to treatment study aims to describe current clinical practices regarding the timing of treatment initiation and determine its impact on functional outcomes in GBS.

The prognostic modeling study evaluates the incremental prognostic value of neurofilament light chain (NfL) to established models such as mEGOS and mEGRIS.

With the findings from these studies, we aim to improve treatment strategies and prognostic accuracy in GBS, ultimately leading to enhanced patient care and outcomes.

Research focus

My research focuses on GBS.

  • Nfl prognostic model

    • Study on GBS

In this study, we aim to explore whether addition of the biomarker neurofilament light chain, a blood marker for nerve damage, to the existing mEGRIS and mEGOS prediction tools could further improve the performance of these tools. This study is performed using clinical data and blood samples from patients included in the second intravenous immunoglobulin […]

    • Study on GBS

In this project, we aim to describe the current practice of time to treatment. We also assess the association with functional outcome in patients with GBS who received first-line treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin or plasma exchange. This study is performed using data from the International GBS Outcome Study (IGOS).
