Research

Our team is at the forefront of groundbreaking research, working tirelessly to unravel the complexities of these rare diseases. We collaborate both on a national and international level to develop innovative solutions that improve patient outcomes.

National collaboration

Our specialists work together with colleagues in other hospitals in the Netherlands. Together with these colleagues, our specialists look for the correct diagnosis and best treatment for the patient.

International collaboration

We also work together worldwide to develop new treatment methods and medicines. Good research into rare disorders such as GBS and CIDP is not possible without this collaboration.

In 2012 an international team of expert neurologists and scientists decided to join forces and start the International GBS Outcome Study (IGOS), to collect the world’s largest high quality data/biobank for further research.

    • Study on CIDP

Background:Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is a disease of the peripheral nerves. These nerves provide the connection between the brain, the muscles and skin. We do not know exactly how CIDP arises. The idea is that an immune reaction against the nerves arises due to an unknown cause. This causes gradual loss of strength, loss […]

BackgroundGuillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a disorder of the peripheral nerves. These nerves provide the connection between the brain and spinal cord and the muscles and skin. If this connection is damaged by GBS, this leads to serious loss of strength, loss of sensation and pain. GBS is caused by inflammation of these nerves and treatment […]

    • Study on CIDP

International CIDP Outcome Study (ICOS) In this study, we investigate the variation and predictors of the disease course in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP). Background CIDP is a rare condition caused by inflammation of the nerves. This causes complaints of loss of strength and sensory disturbances in the arms and legs. These complaints usually develop […]
